This Thanksgiving felt a bit like a whirlwind...work, emotion, and food overload. I barely had time to stop and think let alone think about what I was thankful for...shame on me!
I recently typed up this story, and it got me thinking about the good-ole-days when we couldn't get up to Glenns Ferry fast enough. Up at dawn working in the fields and playing in the sun all day. What I would give for just on of those carefree summers...so what I am thankful for this year MY MEMORIES!
"The Dump"by Cousin Macy
One hot summer day in Hammet, Idaho Aund Christine decided it was "cleaning day." This was a very good idea because there had been many children running around the house and it was a mess! The children cleaned and cleaned and cleaned until they were exhausted! In fact, they cleaned so much and there were so many bags of garbage a special trip to The Dump needed to be made. Cousin Justin was older and had his license so he was designated to be the driver. The truck was loaded up with bags of garbage and children (to help unload the garbage of course!) Some of the children included Mary, Wendy, Melinda and a number of other cousins. Unloading the garbage was a success as the bags were thrown out of the pickup and into the garbage piles. When the back of the truck was empty Justin hollered, "Everyone get in and hold on!" Melinda and Macy quickly jumped into the back of the truck but were not able to hold on before Justin hit the gas to go. Before she knew what was happening Macy was jolted backward and rolled right out of the back of the pickup! She had been dumped at the dump! As soon as Justin realized what had happened (from all the children yelling at him to stop) he screeched the breaks and jumped out to see if Macy was alright. She was o.k. except for a little bruising and being a bit shaken up from the fall. Justin felt sooooooo bad that he promised Macy a large Slush Puppie which she thoroughly enjoyed all the way home!
Idaho...how do I love thee...let me count the ways!
